I love seeing people ramble about something they're passionate about (and also talking about a surprisingly sweet interaction I had on Rule34)
Y'know, for all its flaws and how it has become bastardized over the years, there's one thing I'll always love about the internet: Seeing people speak about something they're genuinely passionate about.
There's just this sort of contagious joy that I feel whenever someone speaks about something they are knowledgeable about and want to share said knowledge with the rest of the wide web. Whether it be in the form of video essays talking about one of their favorite video games, a blog post rambling about a hobby they enjoy, someone analyzing and going into detail about a character or scene in a piece of media in a way that nobody else has analyzed that character or scene before, someone explaining what they like about a specific art piece, etc.
The internet allows you to put these thoughts out and, regardless of how niche whatever you're talking about is or how long your ramblings are, there will be at least one person out there who will look at what you wrote and think: "This is really neat!"
This brings me to something that touched my heart a bit today and it was from Rule34 of all things. While browsing Rule34, the website for NSFW artwork, under an art piece that I particularly enjoyed, there was a comment that went into detail about what they liked about that piece. Looking at their account, many of their other comments were of similar nature.
Now if you're familiar with that website, you would know that the comment section mostly contains bizarre roleplaying and/or generically horny comments, with the occasional funny and out of pocket comments here and there. It's otherwise something you most likely won't spend your time looking at since there isn't exactly anything insightful to read. You're just on the funny green website to do your thing and move on.
But when I saw that comment, it felt so refreshing to read. For once, regardless of their NSFW nature, someone was actually viewing these as genuine works of art and giving their positive commentary on them. However, someone replied to their comment in annoyance, telling them to shut up, and apparently other people have expressed similar annoyance to their previous comments as well. After reading that unnecessarily rude reply, I made my own response to the original commenter, telling them to ignore that rude reply and any similar response they receive; and that I enjoyed reading their thoughts and how I wished there were more comments like theirs.
I later got something in my inbox. It was the commenter, expressing gratitude for my response and explaining why they make the comments that they do. Simply because they want to bring some spice in the comment sections via gushing and showing appreciation for the artwork on the site. It was a very sweet response that I honestly wasn't expecting to receive at all, but I'm glad I did.
I suppose the lesson here is that if you ever come across someone passionately talking about something and you enjoy their rambles, don't be afraid to say something about it! Doesn't have to be a detailed response or anything. Simply showing any appreciation for what they're talking about can make their day and be a huge motivation booster. And if you're one to be passionate about things you enjoy, don't let any jerks demotivate you. Keep writing what you're writing!
